What you give up with an in hull transducer

Matching a transducer to your mount

A kayak with a scupper in a usable spot generally does best with a dedicated scupper mount, since it needs no adhesive and nothing bolted to the hull. A kayak without a workable scupper, or a canoe, is better served by an arm mount that swings the transducer clear for launching and landing. On a boat with an aluminum hull, a transom mount such as a standard transom transducer sidesteps the thru hull material question entirely, since it bolts through the transom skin rather than requiring a hull-specific fitting below the waterline.

It rides with the motor rather than the hull, which is what lets the beam point wherever the motor is aimed. It only works while the electric motor is deployed and steering, so it is not an option while running on the outboard.

What mount works on a kayak without a usable scupper?
